Workshops and Courses

blob-group

What is this?

Workshops and courses are part of the Befriend Co-Learning Network, creating opportunities to explore community-building approaches, grow relational skills, and practise building connection together.

Across the year, we offer a mix of short workshops and multi-session courses for people who are curious about community and connection. Each session creates a rich mutual learning environment, learning with our experienced facilitators as well as fellow travellers, and each listing shares more detail to help you sense whether an offering feels right for you.

Reimagining new possibilities for how we live as communities, together.

What is the Possibility Fellowship?

The course aims to offer an embodied understanding of how communing and the quality of our relationships is the foundation of community. It hopes to nourish our individual and collective capacity to adapt to the ever-changing complexities of life, finding new ways of living together that are enlivening for us all.

Is this for me?

Yes, if you….

  • Wish to connect more deeply with yourself and with others
  • Are at a crossroads in your life and looking for new direction or inspiration
  • Are active in community, supporting marginalised groups or advocating for change…
  • Are seeking to find and nourish your own voice and calling, be it in the domain of policy or politics, science or scholarship

What might the benefits be?

You are likely to:

  • Experience and deepen your capacity for ‘communing’ — showing up with one another with genuine appreciation and deep respect — as the foundation of community.
  • Make and deepen relationships within and beyond your Fellowship group, including with people from diverse backgrounds and life experiences.
  • Review your assumptions and perhaps see life and the world differently.
  • Gain confidence and inspiration for combining with others and taking meaningful action.
  • Play with the question “Who can I be with you, and who can you be with me?”

What past participants had to say:

“Last weekend I finished the most amazing course I have done so far. Words would never be enough to express my journey throughout The Possibility Fellowship. The course was a story-filled exploration of what’s possible for me and my communities, for reimagining new possibilities for me, others and the world.”
– Patricia Villa

“When I started I was in limbo. Do I walk back on the path I was going on, or do I try to find something different, something new? I learned that my community work doesn’t have to be grand, that it can start from the people all around me. The Fellowship experience gave me clarity about my gifts and confidence to give them.”

A friendly 2.5-hour workshop hosted by Befriend (this event is online–Zoom link shared upon RSVP).

Have you ever thought about sparking your own social gathering or group?

Maybe you’ve dreamed of hosting a casual BBQ for the neighbours… or perhaps you care deeply about climate action and want to bring like-minded folks together to create change. Whatever your passion, this workshop is designed to help you take the first (or next!) step toward bringing people together in a way that feels right for you.

For the past 13 years, Befriend has been supporting everyday people to start their own inclusive social groups around hobbies, interests, and ideas they care about. We’ve learnt a lot about what makes gatherings welcoming and meaningful, and we’d love to share what we know with you!

✨ This is perfect for you if you:

  • Feel ready (or just curious!) to bring people together
  • Have an idea to spark connection in your community
  • Want to explore becoming a Host with the Befriend Social Network

🌿 What to expect:

  • A conversation about what makes a social group inclusive and welcoming
  • Ideas and inspiration for different kinds of gatherings you could start
  • A few practical things to consider
  • Friendly faces and good chats
  • Information about Hosting with Befriend and the next steps in the process

🧾 What to bring:

  • Yourself, just as you are (cameras optional, however you feel comfortable to participate)
  • Your fave pen and notebook if you want
  • An open heart and an open mind

Whether you’re ready to get started or just exploring ideas, you’re so welcome here.
For any questions, reach us at: rsvp@befriend.org.au | 0404 831 201
