Note: There will still be a class on as normal on Easter Monday. The classes run every week, regardless of public holidays 🙂

Are you struggling with challenges in your relationships with others - at home, at work, or with friends?

Or have you had a falling out with someone you care about, and you want to heal and strengthen your relationship with them?

Or maybe your relationships are going well, but you want to deepen your connection and prevent future problems?

If so, come and join our free weekly class - a relaxed community space to explore practical tools, fresh ideas, and real conversations that help you communicate more effectively and strengthen your relationships.

This group is also advertised outside Meetup, and regulars don’t RSVP every week. So don’t worry if you don't see many attendees below - there’s always a great group there!

What You’ll Get Out of These Classes

Each week, we’ll explore key principles, techniques and skills to help you:

✅ Communicate more clearly and constructively

✅ Encourage others to open up and communicate freely with you

✅ Prevent misunderstandings, arguments and fights

✅ Navigate and handle painful emotions without shutting down or blowing up

✅ Resolve practical problems, contentious issues and conflicts in your relationships

✅ Rebuild trust, heal and strengthen your relationships

This class runs every week and focuses on a new topic each time - you’ll always learn a ton of new things and have plenty of “aha!” moments!

You can use what you learn in any relationship context (partners, families, friendships, colleagues, networks) so it’s totally fine to come if you’re single.

No previous experience or skills are needed, and people of any age, gender and background are welcome 🙂

Please note: This class is not a form of therapy or counselling. It’s a community-based space for reflection, discussion, and learning practical strategies. If you're facing a crisis or needing mental health support, please seek help from a qualified professional or support service.

What These Classes Look Like

Each class is a combination of:

👨🏼‍🏫 Interactive presentations

📋 Real life examples and case studies

🗨 Group discussion and Q&A

🛠 Practical exercises and activities

The classes always provide a safe and supportive environment, while being casual and fun - it's an awesome group of people!

You’ll have a great time and learn a ton of valuable stuff, and you’ll leave each class feeling clearer, more in control and really happy you came 🙂

About Your Host

Hi, I’m AJ.

I’ve been exploring relationships and communication passionately for the past 20 years, and I’ve been helping people in this area professionally for the past 10 years.

Over that time, I've built a huge base of knowledge, skills, tools and techniques, as well as developing a few systems and processes of my own.

I’m always excited to share what I've learned to help people transform their relationships and communication - and that’s what this class is all about!

I'm also passionate about contributing and having an impact. This class is my latest volunteer project, and I’d love for you to be part of it.

Feel free to reach out if you have any questions.

I’m looking forward to meeting and connecting with you 🙂

A warm welcome to those who are interested in connecting with a group of like-hearted individuals to develop a meditative practice in a supportive space. This group is suitable for people over 18 years of age at both beginner and experienced levels of practice. If you are new to meditation, Kelly will offer more guidance as you explore your unique journey.

About the host
Kelly loves encouraging people to develop a nurturing relationship with themselves. She is a registered and practising facilitator through Meditation Australia and has a degree in education with a special interest in supporting students at educational risk. She also holds a diploma in both holistic counselling and in coaching, mentoring and interpersonal facilitation.

What to expect
Classes are free and hosted at Gumblossom Community Centre in Quinns Rocks every Tuesday evening. Participants are invited into the room at 6:45pm. We spend some time connecting with each other socially before settling in for the guided mindfulness and mediation session. Unfortunately, participants will not be able to enter the room after 7:00pm as the meditation session will be underway. This is a safe, trauma-informed space and participants are respectfully requested to not consume alcohol, drugs, cigarettes or eat foods with strong aromas such as garlic and onion before class. Perfume or aftershave can trigger allergies for participants, so not spraying yourself before class is greatly appreciated. If you have allergies or a strong preference against particular essential oils, please make this known prior to class as an aromatherapy diffuser is used to enhance relaxation. We conclude the evening just before 7:30pm with an internal or verbalised gratitude focus.

Facilities
There are ample parking bays in the carpark, and clean bathroom facilities are available inside the venue. Participants are encouraged to use the facilities before entering the meditation room so we don’t disturb the space once we are settled in. It is a disability friendly venue with no stairs, but please let Kelly know if you have mobility requirements so she can ensure the class space is set up appropriately for you ahead of time.

What to bring
Please bring a water bottle, comfy clothes and a cushion if you find plastic chairs uncomfortable. You are also welcome to bring your own camping chair if this is more comfortable for you. If you would like to lay down, please feel welcome to bring your yoga mat; however, be mindful that if it is a full class, there won’t be lots of space to do this. The room has adjustable air conditioning and is pleasant during cool and warm evenings. Our body temp. can fluctuate during meditation though, so bringing what you need to make yourself comfortable is encouraged. Phones need to be turned off or on silent mode. If choosing to remove your shoes, please be mindful of class participants and ensure your feet aren’t smelly!

Booking
The class size is kept to a max. of 15 participants and bookings are essential. Please don't turn up to the venue if you've not reserved your space.

We look forward to meeting you and embarking on a journey of self-care together.

Hello there. If you’re reading this, there’s a good chance you’re out here looking for a new and exciting way to spend an evening, and that’s what we’re here to provide. Do you enjoy card games? Do you want to meet more likeminded people? Are you sick of me asking questions? Then let’s talk 😊

First thing is first… our names are Jordan and Ella. We’re here to hopefully bring together a nice little community of people who like having a nice social catch up with people who enjoy the same things, and enjoy having a laugh whilst playing unconventional (but also normal as well) tabletop games. We want to play some fun little card games with likeminded people, have a laugh, and quite possibly even make some new friends along the way.

We have discussed some games that we could play, and a good few of them are a bit unconventional, but absolutely fun. We will still have the normal games like Uno and other classic favourites, but we have other lesser-known games such as Chocobo’s Crystal Hunt, Love Letter (not as romantic as it sounds but you will still fall in love with it), and many others.

There’s a lot that we could say about the operations behind our game night, but we’ll just give a TL;DR version for those of you who are already fed up with the amount of reading you’ve done so far. This is what we have so far:

  • Time: 6pm-8pm
  • Day: Every second Wednesday
  • Location: Ocean Keys shopping centre food court

If you think there’s anything that we’ve missed, please let us know and we will throw in that extra information. With all of that said, if you have any other questions, queries, suggestions, or just want to discuss things further, don’t even thing about hesitating to get in contact with Ella (0478637425) or Jordan (0407868818) by phone, or even send us a message on Meetup. We will do our absolute best to get back to you. Looking forward to hearing from you all, and looking way more forward to meeting you all in person.

As a side note - please confirm via a direct message if you are coming or not, as we’d love to know who's coming in advance 😊

Reimagining new possibilities for how we live as communities, together.

What is the Possibility Fellowship?

The course aims to offer an embodied understanding of how communing and the quality of our relationships is the foundation of community. It hopes to nourish our individual and collective capacity to adapt to the ever-changing complexities of life, finding new ways of living together that are enlivening for us all.

Is this for me?

Yes, if you....

  • Wish to connect more deeply with yourself and with others
  • Are at a crossroads in your life and looking for new direction or inspiration
  • Are active in community, supporting marginalised groups or advocating for change…
  • Are seeking to find and nourish your own voice and calling, be it in the domain of policy or politics, science or scholarship

What might the benefits be?

You are likely to:

  • Experience and deepen your capacity for ‘communing’ — showing up with one another with genuine appreciation and deep respect — as the foundation of community.
  • Make and deepen relationships within and beyond your Fellowship group, including with people from diverse backgrounds and life experiences.
  • Review your assumptions and perhaps see life and the world differently.
  • Gain confidence and inspiration for combining with others and taking meaningful action.
  • Play with the question “Who can I be with you, and who can you be with me?”

Please download the full fellowship PDF here

You can apply HERE or email Peter or Nicola if you have any questions:

peter@befriend.org.au

nicola@befriend.org.au

What past participants had to say:

“Last weekend I finished the most amazing course I have done so far. Words would never be enough to express my journey throughout The Possibility Fellowship. The course was a story-filled exploration of what's possible for me and my communities, for reimagining new possibilities for me, others and the world.”
– Patricia Villa

“When I started I was in limbo. Do I walk back on the path I was going on, or do I try to find something different, something new? I learned that my community work doesn’t have to be grand, that it can start from the people all around me. The Fellowship experience gave me clarity about my gifts and confidence to give them.”

Gentle Somatic Yoga will meet every Saturday morning.
Gentle Somatic Yoga® incorporates slow, mindful movements that unwind long held, stress-based patterns and/or injuries. Therapeutic and corrective exercises called Somatic Movement Flows® erase chronic muscle pain and significantly increase flexibility though self-correction. In Gentle Somatic Yoga® we do not intend to stretch muscles in order to achieve results. Instead, we go to the root cause of all muscular pain, which is found in the brain, and reprogram habitual patterns of stress held deep within the body (Soma). Most of the Somatic Movement Flows® are performed on the floor with a yoga mat and a blanket or beach towel which is used as support for your head and as a covering if you feel chilled.

DADS!!!

This is for our dads out there
It's our chance - our time -to get out of the house - have a easy group talk so we can de stress from and Family matters that hurt us for a couple of hours and meet other dads going through the same feelings.

There are a few things we do to ensure everyone is ok with each other and that's

  1. it's just for dads at this stage sorry to mums and kids but it is what it is
  2. must be over age 18+
  3. Accepting of a pre screen call for location and everyone's general safety we don't want any conflict of interest between people. Call 0450835702 (Mon-Thursday)

If your ok with that we have a great venue with all really affordable snacks and drinks at a very family oriented location which if you do think to accept the pre screen call then our group location will be shared at that moment

it's simple, non judgemental and the best part it's simply free (no cost) except if you choose to buy your own food/drinks.

Common questions about about all this

Hosts list their event on a website called Meetup. It’s easy to use, free to create a profile and simple to look at all the events taking place across Perth! Whilst there isn’t an easy way to see events geographically, Hosts usually list the location of the event in the title.

You can also check out the map above, where you can look at the red pins, which mark events taking place in that area over the next 7 days.

If none of this floats your boat, then just give us a call or text, and we can help you find a local event you might be interested in!

Look for a yellow Befriend flag or a yellow table topper! Once a Host completes our Host training workshop, they receive a flag and/or table topper to help their group stand out from the crowd! Many Hosts are available to contact via Meetup too, so once you’ve RSVP’d to a gathering, you could always reach out to say hello and warmly introduce yourself.

Generally speaking, Befriend groups are for adults over the age of 18. There might be the occasional event where this isn’t the case (e.g. a picnic or end-of-year celebration) but broadly speaking, the Befriend Social Network is for adults looking to make new connections.

Of course! Befriend groups really are a welcoming, comfortable space for anyone to pop along to, so if you’re supporting someone who is keen to get out and socialise, you’d be very welcome to accompany them and participate as much or as little as you’d like. You do you!

All groups taking place across The Befriend Social Network are run by local community members around Perth who have a desire and passion for getting to know people in their local community. These wonderful humans are called Hosts. Our role as an organisation is really about supporting those local people and their groups to thrive.

We aren’t able to control which events take place, when, or where they happen, as it really takes a community member just like you to put their hand up to give hosting a local group a go!

So, if there’s nothing happening in your neighbourhood that takes your fancy, you might need to travel to another suburb to find something, or, hey, maybe it’s time for you to bring The Befriend Social Network to your ‘hood and become a Host so you can put on your own group!

Groups are generally small gatherings of between 3-15 people. It varies, depending on the activity and sometimes, how long the group has been running.

Thanks for thinking of us – we’d love to share more information about Befriend with anyone who has a yearning for community, is keen to experience new things, or just wants to sweeten their social life. The best way to connect us is to pass on our contact information or send them a link to our website. They’d be welcome to email, call, text, or even direct message on our social accounts! Once we’ve heard from them, a Befriendly Community Builder can get in touch for a chat and see what we can do to support their connectedness!

Most Hosts will describe the accessibility of their event or venue in the description on Meetup. You are also welcome to reach out to the Host or to us to ask about a specific event.

Yes! But we recommend letting the Host know you’re coming—you can RSVP through us—so the Host knows to expect you, and if the event is cancelled or moved, you’ll get a heads‑up.

You may find the answer on our general FAQ page or you can contact us via the details below!
