Befriend are collaborating with the W.A. Disability Services Commission and the City of Kwinana to establish the Befriend Social Network in the area. The Network is a model based on Asset-Based Community Development, which will enable residents in Kwinana to take ownership of creating the Befriendly community they want to live in. Our Network model has been tested and refined over seven years to become an - Impact effective - Cost effective - Sustainable - Community owned - Evidence based - Proven and low-risk; way to build social capital locally.
The 12-month initial development project commenced in February 2017 and is being led by Community Builder Jodie, a local Kwinana resident. Keep an eye out for localised gatherings popping up in the area as the Network is established and grows.
City of Belmont Project
The City of Belmont are supporting Befriend to develop the Befriend Social Network in their area. The 9 – month initial development project commencing July 2017 will be led by a local Community Builder. Their focus will be on recruiting volunteers and members in that area, getting regular events happening for residents and visitors and creating the magical ‘web of relationships’ that Befriend is famous for.
We are excited to be bringing the Social Network to the area with so many fun things to do in Belmont- think riverside jaunts, horse racing, picnics at Volcano Park or even an indoor skydive! Keep an eye out for new events as the project develops.
