The Team
Meet the team of volunteers driving Befriend Inc forward into a brighter future!

Nick Maisey
“I’m a Perth boy born & bred, I love to eat, to dance and to laugh. My Occupational Therapy degree incited in me a passion for working with individuals and communities to facilitate meaning and enjoyment in daily life. For me, life is made beautiful by the people we share these experiences with. No one should live in a world of loneliness and isolation; it is a basic human need to feel like you belong. I feel privileged to be a part of the Befriend Team.

I also love to travel and meet fun and interesting people from all over the world. Travel to India and parts of Asia has opened my eyes to the reality of living in the third world. I hope to spend more time in the future working to break the poverty cycle. Wanting to change the world? What are you waiting for?”

“I enjoy cooking, live music and travel, but mostly I live to eat. Whether it's at home or out in a restaurant, nothing beats food and drinks with friends. I am a high school Home Economics teacher, which is great because I get to work with food and many different people every day.

I'm having a great time being part of the Befriend Team; organising and helping out with events and activities has been very rewarding and I have met heaps of new people and made some good friends as well.  If you have a bit of spare time and like meeting people (you can never have too many friends), then get involved.”

“Eating, travelling and art… If I could I’d spend all day eating ice-cream with friends, creating an artistic masterpiece and dancing down the cobblestones of Greece! I’m also a country girl at heart, fishing, camping, water fights – you name it I’m there! There’s just too many new experiences to be had and I always find it’s made better with friends and family.

I’m about to start studying with the aim to go into Social Work at Uni – I’m keen to work with people from all walks of life but in particular aim to reduce the barriers young people face in society. Being a part of the Befriend Team allows me to explore my passion to help encourage the wellbeing of others and that everyone deserves to enjoy their life.  If it only takes one tiny act of kindness to change a life then I aspire to achieve at least one a day.”

Lauren Falconer
“Since starting University I have been lucky enough to meet a number of very inspirational people who have overcome their own personal challenges to achieve things that people around them thought were impossible. Unfortunately many people also face such insurmountable challenges that they sometimes need some further support to do the things they want to do, such as meet new people and try new things.

My work in paediatrics gives me a chance to work with families to support their children to be included in everyday life and reach their full potential - one of my main passions in life. Being part of Befriend has given me a valuable opportunity to be a part of a group that helps people of all walks of life to have access to the opportunities many people take for granted. I believe that we all have the potential to contribute to a movement of change in our society that would see an end to social isolation.”

“I am currently studying towards a bachelor of commerce degree with majors in finance, accounting, and business law, at the University of Western Australia. I like to live a busy life and keep active with many hobbies and commitments outside of university. I am the vice captain of the CBC-A grade Colts side (Australian Rules Football), and play every Saturday morning. I strongly believe in living a healthy lifestyle and also like to get down to the beach for a surf, or have a round of golf when I get the chance.

As the Treasurer of Befriend Inc my aim is to gain a practical experience to complement my studies in pursuit of achieving my personal goals, and in doing so, help others achieve theirs. Having a fulfilling social life is something many people take for granted. I believe that everyone should have the opportunity to get out with a group of mates and enjoy themselves; it is a necessity for happiness. Through my work on the committee I hope to create these opportunities for individuals with different backgrounds, abilities, religious beliefs, and personal values, in order to achieve a positive outcome.”

...and all the rest!
Befriend Inc wouldn’t be as awesome as it is without the support of a number of other amazing people. Big hugs to
